Headscarfs are such a fun and easy way to elevate your style. You can wear them on your purse, around your neck, around your belt loop, and of course, in your hair. Although the options to style a headscarf seem endless, today I am breaking down four of my favorite ways to style head scarfs in your hair.
Check out my video tutorial of these hairstyle here!
Styling a headscarf as a headband, as I did here with this beautiful one from Amazon, is super simple and easy. I like to keep my hair parted down the middle while leaving the front pieces of my hair out in front of the headscarf. Start by folding your square headscarf in half on a diagonal then rolling it so it’s long and thin. Find the middle of the headscarf and place it at the nape of your neck, bring the ends up on both sides and secure a tight knot on the top of your head. Depending on the length of the scarf and the look you prefer you can leave the ends out or tuck them under as I did in this example.
For this style, start by completing the steps from the first style to secure the headband in place. Then collect all of your hair in a low ponytail at your neck. From here, I like to pull on pieces near my roots to add the desired amount of shape and texture. I also like to gently pull out some pieces of hair in the front to help frame my face.
The half up, half down look is probably my favorite because I love the look of the long tails of the headscarf. Start by separating the top part of your hair above your ears from the bottom. Combine the hair from both sides with a hair tie but make sure it is not to tight to your scalp. Next, make a hole in the hair above the hair tie with equal parts on both sides. Then, take the small ponytail and flip it up and into the hole you’ve created to form a beautiful twist effect. When it’s time to add the headscarf, have it folded the same way as the first style and loop it through the hair tie to ensure it will not fall out. Last but not least tie a double knot with the scarf and let the tails hang.
I saved the most complex style for last but you could easily alter this look to make it as effortless as you’d like. I started by creating a french fishtail braid to the nape of my neck and securing my hair in a low ponytail. Then, I slip the hail in the pony in half, formed a rope braid, and twisted that into a low bun. After the bun is secured, I like to gently pull on the braid and the bun to add depth and texture. Lastly, I wrap the scarf around the bun with the center of the scarf at the nape of my neck and tie it into a bow on top of the bun. This style is so cute and although a bit tricky, has a nice, effortless feel to it.
I hope you found this post helpful and feel inspired to spice up your hairstyle routine by trying something new. Head scarfs are such a great accessory to add color and interest to your look and are a timeless piece that can be repurposed in many ways.
