Something I’ve been working on over the last year is investing in fewer, high-quality clothing pieces vs. more less expensive ones. I want to get a lot of use out of the items I purchase and prefer them to be very versatile so I can style them in several ways. As much as I love a floral print or a striped pattern, I find I wear these types of pieces in my wardrobe less than the solid color pieces because they are so distinct.
Today I’m sharing my top seven style staples for summer. I basically thought “if I could only have seven items in my closet this summer, what would I want them to be?” These pieces are items I already own and wear all the time! They are comfortable, cute, and functional which is so important to me. I have shared a few options for each category that you can shop by clicking on the image.
I feel like white pants just look like summer. I have been loving the high-waisted, wide-leg style especially in whites and creams. You can go for a soft linen material like this pair from Abercrombie & Fitch or a thicker material like this pair from Everlane.
If you read my blog post on the best dresses for spring and summer, then you already know how much I love T-shirt dresses. They feel like you are wearing PJ’s and can easily be dressed up or down. My favorite ones are the front pocket Tee style dresses from Everlane.
A pair of cut off denim shorts is a classic must-have for summer. I personally love the high-waisted style that has a 3-5-inch inseam. These high-rise Mom shorts from Abercrombie & Fitch have a nice amount of coverage and come in six different washes.
I love slip-on sandals mostly for the connivence. I’ve had sandals with lots of straps and buckles that are cute but take several minutes to get on and off. I love being able to quickly throw this style sandal on to get out the door. I wear these footbed sandals from Freepeople often and have these waterproof Birkenstocks on my wish list.
A straw sunhat is a must for laying by a beach or pool, but I also love when a style can we worn with casual outfits as well. These wide-brim options like this one from ASOS can really elevate a sundress and of course help protect from harmful sun rays.
A basic white T-shirt is an essential year-round for me but especially during the warmer months. I love the crewneck style best like this one from Madewell and have fun styling it in different ways such as tying a front knot or tucking it into my shorts.
Round frame sunglasses have a fun, retro feel and are flattering on many face shapes. After years of purchasing many cheap sunglasses and never being truly happy with how they looked on me, I decided to invest in this pair from Ray-Ban. Since these were an investment for me, I do not plan on wearing them in situations where they could get grimy or potentially break but I love having a high-quality pair that is also flattering. If you also love this look but do not want to pay for the Ray-Ban ones, I found this similar dupe at Anthropologie for $38.
I hope this post helped you think about what your style staples are for summer and got you excited to dress for the warmer weather! I also hope it encouraged you to pick out more versatile, high-quality pieces the next time you shop to make sure you get a ton of use out of your purchases.
