Halloween Charcuterie Board – Sweet & Salty

Although I’ve been too old to Trick-or-Treating for many years now, I still love Halloween candy and treats. I know other adults feel the same which is why I love this Halloween charcuterie snack board idea! With an arrangement of party favorite snacks and treats, everyone is sure to find something they like to snack on. Charcuterie boards are so much fun because you can customize and theme it however you’d like. You can stick to the traditional foods found on a charcuterie board and still pull off the Halloween theme or you can opt for a sweet and sour candy version like the charcuterie board ideas below.

About Charcuterie Boards

In case you aren’t familiar, charcuterie boards (pronounced “shar-KOO-tuh-ree”) are a food trend that seems to become more popular over time! “Charcuterie” is a French word for displaying a variety of meats included pork, salami, prosciutto, and sausages. More modern charcuterie boards also include cheeses, nuts, veggies, fruits, sauces, etc. Typically the boards are arranged in what I like to call a curated cluster that is aesthetically pleasing and inviting.

Dessert Charcuterie Boards

Since the rise in popularity of charcuterie boards, people have also altered the trend by creating amazing dessert charcuterie boards. Dessert charcuterie boards have the same curated cluster style featuring anything from candy to cookies and other baked treats. I find the dessert charcuterie boards to be so much fun and love how you can tailor them to any holiday or theme. For this blog post, I made a dessert Halloween-themed Charcuterie Board since that is the next upcoming holiday but I’m already looking forward to making more for other holidays such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

How to Make a Halloween Charcuterie Board

Now that you know the background of this festive foodie lovers trend, let’s get into the details of exactly how to create a Halloween charcuterie board. Although there are no rules to this process and creativity and originality is encouraged, here are my best tips for making the ultimate charcuterie style Halloween themed snack board. If you are more of a visual learner, be sure to check out my step-by-step video showing you exactly how I created this Halloween charcuterie board here.

Start by placing any larger items or decor you want to incorporate into your design. For my Halloween charcuterie board, I included a spooky skeleton hand and two small pumpkins to set the tone of the theme. Next place any bowls or containers you might be using to hold smaller items. I used these super cute little bowls to hold M&M’s as well as white and milk chocolate chips.

If you love the effortless look of the different foods on the charcuterie board coming together, place the more solid foods next such as the chocolate covered pretzels, gummy bears, andcandy corn in my case. Spread these items on either side of the board to create balance. Lastly, layer in the lighter items that are more likely to move around such as nuts, muddy buddies, and popcorn.

As I mentioned earlier, there are no rules for creating a dessert charcuterie board and the process should be fun. Don’t be afraid to play, move things around, and rearrange until you like the way it looks and everything seems to come together. One key element to creating a charcuterie board of any kind is to have it look abundant like there is enough for everyone. That being said, let the foods pile up filling the real estate of the board and possibly even overlapping each other to give the board a full and lavish look.
